Yrene Ramirez
Yrene Ramirez is a powerful example of how perseverance, education, and purpose-driven service can transform a life—and a community. Once a high school dropout, Yrene became the first graduate of the Animal-Assisted Intervention for the 21st Century (AAI-21®) Program through La Sierra University’s Criminal Justice Department. Today, she stands as both a trailblazer and mentor in the field of animal-assisted intervention, criminal justice, and forensic documentation.
As Chief of Staff for the AAI-21® Institute, Yrene plays a strategic leadership role—shaping the program’s national direction and championing trauma-informed, canine-centered care. She also serves as a university-level instructor in Criminal Justice, where she brings a unique, field-tested perspective to students and professionals preparing for careers in law enforcement, rehabilitation, and public safety.
In addition to her academic leadership, Yrene is an active forensic photographer and videographer for a Child Abduction Response Team (CART)—using her trained eye to document critical scenes and evidence in high-stakes, time-sensitive investigations. Her technical skill behind the camera is matched by her emotional intelligence and trauma-informed approach to working alongside victims, families, and emergency personnel.
Yrene’s expertise doesn’t stop there. She is also a certified professional dog trainer, walker, sitter, and decoy, with a deep commitment to the training, enrichment, and behavioral health of working dogs. Her ability to bridge the worlds of canine handling, forensic science, and victim advocacy reflects her rare and dynamic skillset.
Yrene Ramirez’s story is one of resilience, creativity, and community service. Her journey proves that with courage, purpose, and a commitment to lifelong learning, anything is possible. As she continues to break new ground in animal-assisted intervention and K9-supported forensic response, she remains an inspiration to all who believe in the healing power of education—and the power of one person to make a difference.
